BEL Valves has been awarded the Better Health at Work Bronze Award, supported by Public Health England and delivered in partnership with the Northern TUC.
Unique to the North East of England, the Better Health at Work Award (BHAW) programme was established to bring health and wellbeing into the workplace and improve the lives of employees across the region.
The BEL Valves Wellbeing Team delivered three campaigns designed to support healthier lifestyles, alongside wider wellbeing initiatives throughout the year. Campaign topics were chosen by employees following a Health Needs Assessment Survey, helping to ensure the right areas were prioritised for our workforce.
To support healthier habits, the team shared nutritious recipes with employees and introduced Fresh Fruit Mondays, where free fruit is available to all staff. This initiative has helped to promote healthier food choices across the business.
During Stoptober we focussed on encouraging staff to reduce or quit smoking, with the aim to promote healthier behaviour and reduce second hand smoke exposure at BEL Valves. Key messages, tips and support resources were displayed across the site to help give advice and raise awareness of the support available to everyone.
A full programme of drug and alcohol awareness sessions were delivered. This included a visit from the Fire Service, highlighting the risks of drug and drink driving, as well as Newcastle City Council, who delivered a dedicated drug and alcohol awareness session. Sober October was also promoted to all employees to encourage reduced alcohol consumption.
Alongside these campaigns, additional initiatives took place throughout the year, including mental health training, prostate health screenings and Breast Cancer Awareness Month, supporting early detection and overall wellbeing.
Thank you to the Wellbeing Team for organising our health campaigns throughout the year, and congratulations to everyone involved in achieving the Better Health at Work Bronze Award.
